PODCAST

A satire of America, characters all yellow, a nuclear power station and donuts ... This week, in SERIELAND, Clémence Olivier takes you behind the scenes of the cult series "The Simpsons".

The Simpsons

is a cult animated series.

Since 1989, this middle-class American family has been embedded on our screens and in pop culture.

And I don't know about you, but I still enjoy spending some time with Bart, Homer and Lisa.

Because in each episode, the series points to the failings of American society and that's what makes it so fun.

The Simpsons

is not only an animated series that everyone knows but it is also a cult credits.

He takes us to the small town of Springfield and we see Bart, Homer, Lisa, Marge, and Maggie, taking turns walking home to sit on their sofa in front of their television.

On the music side, the rhythm is removed and the heady notes.

In short, the theme is super successful.

But, did you know that it was born out of lightning?

It would even have been imagined in one day.

Behind the credits: a size

But before I explain to you how this credits was thought, I must tell you about the composer behind it: it's Danny Elfman.

His name may not mean much to you, but in the field, he is a size.

He imagined some of the music for

Batmans

by Tim Burton,

Mission Impossible, Chicago, Desperate Housewife

.

He won Emmy Awards and was nominated for an Oscar.

In short, it is a reference.

Yet when he met Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons, at the end of the 80s, he was not yet very famous and he did not really know what to expect.

Matt Groening knows what he wants.

He explains the pitch of his series to Elfman, describes the temperament of his characters, scribbles some sketches.

It is clear with the composer: what he has in mind for The Simpsons is retro music, which is different from what is done then in the 1980s on TV.

His references to him are rather the cartoons

The Flintstones

.. released in the 1960s or

The

Jetsons,

the story of a family living in the future ...

The simplest music he ever composed

Elfman loves this universe and the credits of The Simpsons appear to him almost instantly, as obvious.

He says he imagines the music in his head directly after the date with Groening, while he is driving his car.

Once in his studio, he writes the score in a few hours before recording it on a multitrack.

Groening is seduced!

He buys direct and without modification.

Elfman jumps for joy, not knowing that

The Simpsons

will become the cult and satirical series we know.

A series which now has nearly 700 episodes.

Later, he will say that it is the simplest music he has ever composed!

It is also the one that will bring him the most money and notoriety ...

The Simpsons

It's 32 seasons, 695 episodes

And the series is available on Disney + and Série club
