3 countries lose hundreds of their Twitter accounts

Twitter announced that it had deleted 373 accounts linked to Russia, Armenia and Iran, after it violated its policies.

The company added that it had deleted 238 accounts being managed from Iran due to various violations of its policies.

Twitter said it had deleted 100 accounts linked to Russia due to inflating stories that undermine confidence in NATO and targeting the United States and the European Union, according to Reuters.

Twitter also indicated that it had deleted 35 accounts linked to Armenia, because it was targeting Azerbaijan.

Russian news agency TASS quoted Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova as saying that Moscow intends to look into the reasons for Twitter blocking accounts.
