Good news for the less motivated: twelve minutes of physical activity a day is enough to be in better health.

Jimmy Mohamed, doctor and health consultant from Europe 1, deciphers the benefits of walking, running, cycling or even stretching regularly to fight against the risk of cardiovascular disease.

It is a good recurring resolution, difficult to keep but important for health: that of (re) getting into sport.

For the most resistant, Doctor Jimmy Mohamed is reassuring: from twelve minutes of activity per day, the impact on health is visible.

And you don't have to run.

Less risk of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases: the health columnist of Europe 1 explains the benefits of these few minutes of physical activity per day.

"When we talk about getting back to sport, we inevitably think of having to jog for an hour, several times a week. But the first thing you can do if you don't want to take up sport is to walk It sounds simple, but with teleworking, the curfew, the increase in the time spent on screens: we have become more and more sedentary.

The goal is simple: take 10,000 steps a day.

This is a recommendation from the WHO, the world health organization.

Trackers, installed on cell phones, can be used to determine how many steps have been taken.

But why 10,000 not?

Studies show that if you are already walking 8,000 steps per day compared to 4,000, you are twice as likely to die from any cause, and especially cardiovascular causes.

10,000 therefore seems like a good start.

The first of sports is already to walk.

After how long can we expect a positive impact on our health?

And if you want a more intense activity, no need to strain for hours.

It only takes 12 minutes to start seeing the impact on health.

One study looked at middle-aged subjects, 40 to 50 years old, who were asked to do sustained physical activity: cycling.

And they must have been sweating a bit.

Even if it means playing sports for 12 minutes, you might as well go with a good heart.

Then, the doctors took blood samples, measuring nearly 600 parameters, involved in different diseases.

Almost all of the predictive markers of diabetes, inflammation of the vessels and therefore infarction and cardiovascular disease had diminished after 12 minutes of sports activity.
