[Explanation] Recently, the "Animal Individual Recognition" system developed by the research team of Northwest University has attracted attention because it can recognize "monkey faces".

The reporter learned from Northwestern University that the system has entered the stage of application and promotion. In the future, it is expected that animals will obtain their own electronic IDs and realize intelligent wildlife management.

The Sichuan golden monkey is a rare and endangered primate unique to China, living in the Qinling Mountains.

The Northwestern University golden monkey research team has been carrying out field tracking research and protecting the species for a long time. One of the key links is how to accurately and quickly identify individual wild golden monkeys, but this has always been a problem.

Then one of the most troublesome things in animal research is individual identification. It is difficult to identify clearly based on human experience.

Then we want to use a new technology to realize the continuous identification and continuous recording of such animal individuals.

Then only if the individual has such a long-term record, this data may be an important help to truly understand it.

[Explanation] Based on the long-term research results of the golden monkey research team on the characteristics of this species, using the principle of neural network, the team developed the golden monkey individual identification system for the first time.

Face is a common feature of animal evolution. Can it be a biological feature for individual identification?

Later, it was discovered that after the development of our algorithm and the development of the model, it was found that this part is a very good recognition part.

So we have realized that in the wild conditions, the detection of individuals requires the detection of individuals from the environment and the complex background, and then the tracking of individuals and the three steps of facial recognition.

After these three steps are implemented, we have realized our current set of animal facial AI recognition system.

[Explanation] The researchers said that the system is similar to the face recognition technology, by extracting the facial feature information of golden monkeys to establish "files" of individual Qinling golden monkeys.

When the golden monkey appears, the system will recognize its "identity" and display information such as height and age.

This set of animal face automatic recognition system that we designed may be achieved in the future and can automatically output the basic information of the animal we care about.

For example, let’s say we use our most commonly used imaging device mobile phone. When we encounter an animal, we take a picture of it, and then our system will automatically return its name, gender, and some of its hobbies, etc. Wait, some of the information we are concerned about.

[Explanation] At present, researchers have initially completed the development of the "animal individual identification" system, which has been used for the identification and recording of multiple populations and thousands of individuals in many Qinling golden monkeys, and has initiated the establishment of a Qinling golden monkey information database work.

The system has verified the applicability of 41 representative primates including golden monkeys and 4 carnivore groups, with an average recognition accuracy of 94.1%.
