Pékin Express returns to M6 on Tuesday evening with the launch of its 14th season, "On the tracks of the red earth".

Its producer Thierry Guillaume explains in "Culture Médias" how the adventure program is being renewed this year, to continue to surprise candidates and viewers.

INTERVIEW

Can we still surprise the public after 14 seasons?

In any case, this is the mission given by Thierry Guillaume, producer of Pékin Express.

The adventure show returns Tuesday night at 9 p.m. on M6, with the first episode of its 14th season.

A few hours before its broadcast, the producer unveils in

the new rules for this season entitled "On the slopes of the red earth".

The adventurers on their way to Turkey have been taken by surprise by changes.

The season "On the tracks of the red earth" of Beijing Express retains the basic principle of the program: to try to become the fastest pair to cover 10,000km, with 1 € per day.

But two new rules come to spice up the routine of the game. And the first is announced even before the landing of the candidates in Uganda, country of departure this year.

A rushed start to the race

"The adventurers are comfortably seated on the plane and, on the screen in front of them, Stéphane Rotenberg makes them discover that the race will start directly on the plane," reveals producer Thierry Guillaume.

"It's the first time we've done this."

As a result, the candidates leave the airport and each run with their big suitcase.

"It's also a big novelty: this year we did not give them a backpack," smiles the producer.

"So they start, for some, with suitcases with wheels. But the wheels will not last very long. It's the first time that we have made this surprise, and it gives rather funny scenes."

A private driver as a gift

Another novelty this season is the bonus car.

"It's a free car for an hour and a half or two hours, with a driver who must be able to allow a pair to gain the advantage over the others", explains Thierry Guillaume.

This novelty is therefore a huge advantage for the winning team.

But this bonus car is not easy to obtain.

It is only offered to the first four to arrive, who must win it after a draw.

This rule was designed to overcome a particularly difficult playing field.

"We are starting in Uganda, where there are 80% of tracks and no paved roads yet. There are therefore fewer vehicles," says the producer.

"We said to ourselves that for this season, when hitchhiking was going to be difficult, the bonus car was a great gift for a buddy."

Beijing Express season 14 starts Tuesday evening at 9 p.m. on M6.

A season whose filming was greatly disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
