A new media law in Australia leads to a power struggle between politics, technology corporations and media companies.

Above all, Google and Facebook, which combine the majority of digital advertising revenue, would have to negotiate with and pay publishers according to the law, the amount is a matter of negotiation.

The aim should be to create a “fair balance” between tech and media.

The two major platforms initially threatened retaliation.

In fact, Facebook acted on its threat and blocked all Australian media in the past week - no messages can be posted, nor articles from other countries can be seen by Australian Facebook users.

Google, on the other hand, has started to conclude license deals with publishers (instead of saying goodbye to the market, as initially threatened).

In this media week we are also talking about the anger that the satirical magazine “Titanic” has with Google - the magazine's app was removed from the Google Play Store because it displayed offensive content.

And we are discussing whether it makes sense that the “Tagesthemen” have introduced a pros and cons as a new format.

Finally we ask ourselves whether the Relotius affair of the "Spiegel" should be filmed as a satire.

“Die Medien-Woche”

is a podcast about the world of media and its makers.

Christian Meier, editor at WELT, and Stefan Winterbauer, editor of the Meedia industry service, talk about the most important topics of the week every Friday.

Profound, analytical, entertaining.
