  • Last Monday, a machine from a pruning company accidentally punctured an oil transport pipeline.

  • The diesel has spread over a floor area of approximately 500m2, on the land of an organic market gardener.

A week later, the incident has not yet been resolved.

Last Monday, in Maine-et-Loire, the intervention of a pruning company in a field in the town of Etriché caused great damage.

According to the prefecture, a machine attempting to free a stuck tractor accidentally perforated an oil transport pipeline.

“Several cubic meters of diesel” then escaped from the Donges-Melun-Metz pipeline, before the valves were closed.

According to the Confédération paysanne, the incident took place on a plot of one of its members, an organic market gardener.

"A first estimate of the polluted area, carried out by a drone, gives a floor area of around 500m2," the prefecture said on Monday.

The findings made by Dreal and experts from the French company Donges-Metz confirm that the pollution remains within the limits of the leak and is not moving to other areas.

The analyzes carried out on the water from the surrounding wells did not reveal any presence of product.

Operating loss for several years

The pruning company was reportedly sent by Enedis to prevent branches from falling on power lines.

"These companies do not always operate in good conditions, enter the plots without informing the peasants, regrets Eudes Gourdon, the spokesperson for the Confédération paysanne 49. After this incident, the peasant risks an operating loss for several years, and this over an area much greater than 500 m2 ... "

Oil odors can still be smelled around the area, says the prefecture.

She specifies that a drainage ditch is being put in place “to finish recovering the soiled water table for treatment”.
