Shock wave in the world of music: it is through an enigmatic video posted on social networks, soberly titled

, that the French of Daft Punk, the most famous electro duo in the world, announced their separation on Monday.

The video of just over 8 minutes shows the two members, in their traditional robot helmets, advancing in a desert.

A historical press officer of the duo confirmed to AFP the end of the tandem formed in 1993 by Thomas Bangalter, 46 years old and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, 47 years old.

The duo was, since the thunderous and abrasive

(1997), the greatest ambassador of French electro.

An indestructible status solidified with three other opus with success each time planetary:

Human After All

(2005) and

Random Access Memories

(2013) with the planetary

hit Get lucky

, as well as outstanding stage performances.

It had been fourteen years since Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, friends since high school, had not performed in concert, except for very rare appearances during televised ceremonies.

An absence, coupled with a strategy of media silence adopted from their beginnings - we do not know their faces, hidden under a robot helmet - which inevitably arouses expectations, fantasies and desires.

A look back at the iconography of the legendary “French touch” group, with and without a helmet.
