An American expert: The use of masks may still be necessary in 2022

The largest infectious disease expert in the United States, Anthony Fauci, said yesterday that US citizens may have to wear masks in 2022, although he said that life could resume almost naturally by fall or winter.

The New York Daily News quoted Fauchi, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, as saying on CNN in response to a question whether the use of masks will still be necessary next year: "This is likely to be the case."

He added, "We will have a large degree of normality that goes beyond the terrible burden that we have all been through over the past year ... with the entry of autumn and winter - by the end of the year ... we will come close to practicing normal life."

These statements came at a time when Covid-19 cases and deaths are declining in New York and the rest of the country as a whole, despite the continuing concern about the new mutated strains of the virus.

Fauchi said that returning to normal life depends on "the level of virus dynamics present in society .. If you combine the vaccination of most people in the country with reducing the level of virus outbreak in society, then I think you will mostly be able to say, that there is no need to wear masks."
