On the occasion of a series of specials for Apple Music called Medicine At Midnight Radio, Dave Grohl recalled the last hours of Nirvana and the incredible artist that was Kurt Cobain.

For him, the pain felt at the time of the disappearance of the leader of the legendary group in 1994 remains keen as he would like him to be still there and continue to write songs.

“It doesn't matter if it was called Nirvana or something.

It's one of the biggest sorrows of my life that Kurt wasn't around writing more amazing songs yet, because it's pretty clear who had been blessed with a donation.

I think it's safe to say that he was the best songwriter of our generation.

I am very proud to say that I had the opportunity to be his drummer and to play these songs every night, ”he said.

Beautiful memories

Despite everything, for Dave Grohl, the painful memory of the tragic end of Nirvana is nuanced by that of the explosion of the group at the very beginning of the 90s.

“We were still in our van and we just saw it happening in front of us.

The concerts were getting bigger.

The crowds were getting bigger.

Crowds outside of concerts were getting bigger than those inside.

You could see that something was happening, but you didn't expect it to end up being as big as it was.

I don't think any of us expected that, ”added Dave Grohl.
