After investigation, it was determined that the viewer's physical discomfort was caused by excessive carbon monoxide concentration.
Last night (February 19), the reporter learned from the Dongyang City Propaganda Department that the cause of the excess carbon monoxide has been basically identified.
After the incident, all 63 people in the cinema were sent to Dongyang People’s Hospital for examination and treatment, and 5 of them were determined to be mildly poisoned by carbon monoxide.
As of the evening of February 19, five people remained in hospital for observation.

The Xintiandi Shopping Center in Weishan Town, Dongyang City has been temporarily closed after the incident. The movie theater is on the fourth floor of the shopping center, and the situation is in the theater's No. 3 auditorium.
Why is there excessive carbon monoxide in the theater?
A joint investigation team of experts from provinces, cities and counties was established locally to investigate.

Projection Hall 3 is located at the fresh air inlet on the top of the 5th floor. After inhaling the exhaust gas discharged from the boiler, it causes the accumulation of carbon monoxide in Projection Hall 3 and the concentration rises, which causes the body of the people inside. According to relevant investigations by experts, it was determined that carbon monoxide was only concentrated in Cinema 3 at the time of the incident, which ruled out indoor combustion and other conditions, and locked another channel between Cinema 3 and the outside—the fresh air system.
Ma Jixiong, the second-level police technical director of the Criminal Investigation Corps of the Zhejiang Provincial Public Security Department: "The air inlet of the fresh air system is on the top of the fifth floor, adjacent to the fresh air system, only 0.5 meters apart, there is an exhaust port, this flue It is the gas boiler exhaust pipe located on the first floor. This exhaust pipe will discharge carbon monoxide exhaust gas when the boiler is turned on, and then it will be sucked in by the air inlet of the (fresh air system)."
At present, Dongyang City has instructed relevant functional departments to fully investigate their responsibilities, implement rectification, and deal with them in accordance with laws and regulations.
At the same time, Dongyang City is conducting comprehensive safety inspections and special rectification actions for public and entertainment places in the city.
