Dwayne Johnson vividly remembers the day he told his father that he had decided to become a wrestler after failing to become a professional footballer.

An announcement that had stirred the anger of the father who, at the time, was still known in the wrestling world as Rocky “Soulman” Johnson.

He found it unacceptable that his son would follow in his footsteps after having struggled all his life to make a living as a wrestler.

“We had the biggest argument a father and a son can have about this.

Basically he said, “Look around you.

Look what I have after all these years and I want more for you ”.

And I said, “I know, and I understand that, but I feel like I have something to offer”.

And we argued over and over and over again, ”the

While father and son seemed irreconcilable, it was Ata, the actor's mother, herself from the wrestling world, who finally had the last laugh.

A family story

“Finally, my mom said, 'Let me talk to you for a second.

Let me talk to you, husband.

Let me tell you how this is all going to end ”.

And then he said, 'Okay, I'm going to train you,' ”continued Dwayne Johnson.

A beautiful story that the actor will perhaps stage in a second season of

Young Rock

, the series he created for NBC in which he chronicles his youth, from his childhood to his years as a footballer in university.

Dwayne Johnson will also pay tribute to his father who died last year at the age of 75.

Rocky “Soulman” Johnson officiated from the late 60s until his retirement in 2008 and entered the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008. Finally, remember that the tradition is not about to end at the Johnson's since Simone, one of the star's daughters, decided to become a wrestler!
