Ellen Burstein steals the spotlight in a real-life movie adaptation

"A Woman's Leftover" .. Vanessa Kirby shines from a dazzling beginning to an enduring end

Pieces of aWoman, "The Remains of a Woman" movie, adapted from a real experience, and from the original Netflix productions, is emotionally painful about the impact of the trauma of losing a baby girl on the parents and their relationship, a traumatic event that may destroy the marital relationship even if it is strong. This movie is an anatomy of a path of disintegration. A relationship between a woman and a man due to the death of their infant daughter as soon as she was born.

This is not a movie for those who are looking for light entertainment or a happy ending, but for those who want to explore that painful experience closely, the film begins with a very strong introduction capable of asking and answering questions. An introduction, which is a complete birth scene, is sufficient to present the topic in a short film, a pictorial introduction. Very elaborate art, 30 minutes, one full shot without cutting and without writing, as the dialogues are all improvisational.

Martha (Vanessa Kirby) and her partner Sean (Shaya LaBeouf) decided to avoid the gloomy hospital atmosphere, and to seek the help of a midwife to deliver their expectant baby. They decided on a home birth and agreed with a midwife, but she was not full-time at the moment of labor, so she sent her colleague Eva (Molly Parker) to take her place.

The birth process goes smoothly at first, but the midwife feels the baby's heartbeat is low and gets a little confused, which causes Sean to go into a panic attack and insist that to find out if this is normal, the midwife tries to calm him and tells him that everything is normal, but her facial expressions indicate the opposite.

Eva decides to request an intervention from the nearest hospital, asks Sean to call the emergency service, but everything is in vain, even though the baby was born in good health, but her color turned blue and died minutes after coming out of her mother's stomach, crushing her parents' dreams.

About the sights

The film is divided into three parts, the first is the birth process, the second focuses on the disintegration of Martha and Shawn’s relationship, and the third is concerned with the trial of the midwife and Martha’s future. This film is almost perfect, even if there is a defect or a very familiar scene in this unusual text, written by the Hungarian, Kata Weber, It is a scene of the midwife trial that sometimes appears to be inserted and is not organically linked to the rest of the scenes.

Or we can look at it from another angle, the Hungarian director, Cornel Mendrozzo, dives into a dark drama, but he wants to soften the tone and enters the trial scene to give some hope to the course of the story, and gives Kirby an emotional monologue, we do not say that this cannot happen in a story Like this, but in this movie the trial scene does not seem to harmonize with what came before it.

The first half hour is matched by nothing in strength, which is as strong as the scene of "Omaha" beach in "Saving Private Ryan". The comparison may seem strange, but the two scenes are completely equal in placing the viewer in the heart of the event. In other words, after the "shock scene" is over, the film does not rise To the same level until the end.

As soon as Martha's contractions begin in the first five minutes, Mendrozzo uses the camera, focuses on his heroine's face and then exits the shot very smoothly, causing you to scratch your head from the man's ingenuity in working in a very narrow space.

He exits the shot to focus on the belly of the heroine, moves to Sean's face and then returns to Martha, as soon as the midwife enters the camera rotates between the three brilliantly, and you wonder: How did he do it ?!

And this movie can never be compared with Sam Mendes' "1917", because the latter employed digital tricks to conceal his pieces.

performance

This is primarily a performance movie, co-actors LaBeouf and Parker deliver what is expected of them, LaBeouf in particular regardless of his problems with directors, an excellent actor when he accepts roles from directors outside the Hollywood studios system.

The best of them is in the same field, the able Ellen Burstein (88 years), who embodied the role of Martha's mother, who did not accept the presence of Sean in her daughter's life, and it came to the point where she offered him an amount of money to leave.

Burstyn dominates her scenes in the movie, and this is a very talented star who snatches the shots from the film heroes who appear with them, here she plays a woman with amnesia, and from Burstyn's performance we know that she was dominating her daughter's life at one point, and now she is helpless due to her poor memory. The character deserves a movie of her own.

The stolen Oscars

Vanessa Kirby will not win an Oscar because this award is politicized, and will go to the heroes of perversion and homosexuality, but she - that is, Kirby - has every right to say that the award was stolen from her if she did not find her name on the nomination lists, and her claim would be correct!

This is a great movie in Netflix and worth watching.

• The first half hour is unmatched by anything in strength, which is as strong as the scene of "Omaha" beach in "Saving Private Ryan".

• Not a movie for those looking for light entertainment or a happy ending, but for those who want to explore a painful experience up close.

• 3 divisions divided into labor, childbirth, demolition of Martha and Sean's relationship, trial of the midwife and Martha's future.
