Emmanuel Macron estimates that it takes "8 to 10 days to see if we tighten or relax the health constraints," he said this Friday during a video conference with parliamentarians from the majority.

Comments not confirmed by the Elysee.

The executive is monitoring the evolution of the Covid-19 epidemic, in particular the rise of variants deemed more contagious, to see if it can avoid more stringent measures such as re-containment, still advocated by some scientists.

The Minister of Health Olivier Véran announced Thursday the passage from seven to ten days of the period of isolation for the infected people, to face the risks posed by the variants.

No end date for the curfew

The progression of these variants worries in several regions, such as Moselle, around Dunkirk, or in Reunion, for which the government announced on Friday reinforced means and measures of restrictions.

Government spokesman Gabriel Attal said Friday "important" that the curfew at 6 pm "remains in place and continues to be respected" because it "has helped stabilize the health situation".

He did not indicate an end date for this measure.

The situation has stabilized at a still very high level, with more than 22,000 new cases confirmed in the last 24 hours and still strong pressure on hospitals (more than 25,000 hospitalized patients including more than 3,300 in intensive care).
