Africa exceeds 100,000 dead

Africa, which is suffering a second wave of coronavirus, has passed the 100,000 death mark since the start of the pandemic, but the toll on the poor continent of 1.2 billion inhabitants is undoubtedly much higher.

The 54 countries in the region have a total of 100,000 deaths (for 3,793,660 reported cases), according to an AFP count.

The region, relatively spared, is the last, besides Oceania, to reach this threshold crossed in April by Europe.

More than a million French people vaccinated with two doses

France passed the million mark on Thursday who received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, while the circulation of the virus is still intense with more than 22,000 positive cases, according to figures from Public Health France (SpF).

The isolation of people infected with Covid-19 will meanwhile be reduced from seven to ten days from Monday, Minister of Health Olivier Véran announced on Thursday, to face the risks posed by the more contagious variants.

"On the other hand, it will remain seven days for contact cases," he added.

According to figures released Thursday by Public Health France, 83,393 people have died in France after contracting the virus since the start of the epidemic, or 271 additional deaths in 24 hours.

Hospitalizations continue to decline slightly but the pressure remains high.

25,762 patients are admitted to hospital, or 212 less than the day before, but resuscitations are increasing: 3,394 beds are occupied, or 44 more in 24 hours.

22,501 new contaminations were recorded.

Summer festivals will be able to be held, seated and at 5000

Roselyne Bachelot announced to festival professionals that they could be held in a seated version, in the open air and accommodate 5,000 spectators maximum.

If the health situation evolves positively, the gauge could be increased.

The Minister of Culture exchanged by videoconference with the organizers of summer festivals on Thursday.
