The farewell is and remains a final one: Prince Harry and his wife Meghan will no longer return to their royal duties in the British royal family.

Buckingham Palace announced in London on Friday after talks with the couple.

The decision does not come as a surprise.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had expanded their business activities in their adopted home USA in recent months.

The couple now has business relationships with the streaming service Netflix and the audio platform Spotify.

Her announcement that she would appear on Oprah Winfrey's talk show on March 7th also caused a stir.

Doing business with Hollywood, making a TV confession about one's own private life - none of this is compatible with serving the royal family.

And so now both sides announced that the couple's departure from all honorary positions announced almost a year ago is final.

The charitable tasks that Prince Harry in particular had so far have to be distributed.

The British Daily Mail only hinted at their abundance, including military, Commonwealth and charity associations.

These activities would now be taken over by "other members" of the royal family.

Details are to be announced.

"While everyone is sad about their decision, the Duke and Duchess remain very beloved family members," the statement said.
