Clinical trials to assess the immune effectiveness of existing vaccines against Covid-19 will be carried out at HCLs.
In Lyon, the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNtech vaccines will be evaluated.
As part of these trials, volunteers over 75 are being sought by the CHU.
The first injections should be carried out in early March.
The Hospices Civils de Lyon are looking for volunteers over 75 years of age as part of clinical trials intended to assess immune responses against Covid-19 according to age groups and the presence or absence of a history of coronavirus, indicates this Thursday the CHU.
The HCLs are one of the university hospitals selected to participate nationally in immunogenicity vaccine trials, coordinated by the Covireivac platform and managed by F-CRIN and Inserm.
A first study will be carried out in the infectious diseases department of the Croix-Rousse hospital to evaluate the Moderna vaccine on thirty volunteers who have never been infected with SARS-CoV-2.
Follow-up at 6, 12 and 24 months
The first injections will be given on March 1, then the second dose will be given to them twenty-nine days later.
“All patients will be vaccinated.
No placebo will be administered to them, ”specify the HCL, which provides for a follow-up visit with biological samples and clinical examination 57 days after the first dose.
Then at 6 months, 12 months and 24 months in order to assess the immune responses against Covid-19 according to the age groups (18-45 years old versus 65-74 years old versus over 75 years old).
A second vaccine trial will be carried out at the Lyon Sud hospital.
“Thirty volunteers (15 who have never been infected with the virus and 15 who have been infected) will be
included in the trial evaluating the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine”, adds the CHU de Lyon.
Patients without a history of infection will receive two injections of the vaccine and volunteers with a history (over 6 months) will receive a single injection.
As at Croix-Rousse, the clinical trial will begin with the selection of candidates and the first injections should be carried out in mid March.
Then the second dose will be given, if needed, 29 days later.
The follow-up of volunteers will be the same as for the first clinical trial concerning Moderna.
Objective: Advance in vaccine development
To volunteer, all you have to do is pre-register on the site www.covireivac.fr and complete a health questionnaire.
The Lyon center will then contact candidates according to the needs of the different research protocols (age, pre-existing conditions, geographical location).
Volunteers can then confirm their participation in the trial or decide to opt out.
In France, nearly 25,000 people will participate in these evaluations intended to progress in the development of these vaccines which have already been the subject of numerous researches and have received marketing authorization.
The objective is in particular "to identify the most effective vaccines, the best tolerated, the best suited to certain types of population, the easiest to administer or even the cheapest to produce", detail the Hospices Civils de Lyon.
