The fourth day of the Lunar New Year (February 15) is a special day for Lai Jiajun, a blind pianist from Xiaoshan, Hangzhou.

He received a letter of acceptance from the University of Cincinnati in Piano Performance and will pursue a PhD in Musicology.

With more than ten years of unremitting and inspirational struggle, the 25-year-old Hangzhou blind guy ushered in his own bright moment.

After listening to a simple song, you can write it all down

Learn piano with memory and practice

When Lai Jiajun lived in Chengxiang Street, Xiaoshan, although he couldn't see it, he had an extraordinary talent for music since he was a child. This was something his father did not expect when he came to Ge Hong.

"One of us is a mechanical job, and the other is a textile job. To be honest, we don't know much about music." When Jiajun was four or five years old, his father discovered that he liked the CCTV music channel very much and often listened quietly by himself. The tunes inside are serious, "The simple tunes inside can be copied on the keyboard after listening to it several times."

Lai Gehong still remembers that when Macau returned, the theme song "Song of the Seven Sons" was broadcast several times on TV, and Jiajun was able to play it completely on the keyboard.

In 2000, 4-year-old Lai Jiajun came to the predecessor of the New Century Education Group-Xiaoshan New Century Music Company to study.

At the age of four and a half, Jiajun had the first piano in his life, which was donated by New Century Music School and a company.

Jiajun learns music without blind notation, mainly relying on memory and practice.

When I came to Ge Hong, he said that while others played tunes and read music scores, Jiajun directly memorized them.

"Simple songs, Jiajun will be able to listen to it a few more times. For more difficult songs, the teacher will let Jiajun perceive how to play with the left and right hands, and it will be quick to learn."

At that time, Gehong came to Ge Hong only with the idea of letting his son have fun.

Until Jiajun was 8 years old when Jiajun was learning piano, the piano teacher asked Ge Hong to talk, "Let the child go to a more professional school, otherwise such a good talent will be wasted."

Accompanied by "Beijing Drift" for nearly 15 years

Go to the U.S. for further study after graduation

For Lai Gehong, the way to love children is to fully support their dreams.

For Jiajun's piano dream, Lai Gehong and his wife experienced the "North Drift" for nearly fifteen years, and came to Gehong since then to give up their work and become the "eyes" of their son.

In 2004, Jiajun was appreciated by Zhou Guangren, a tenured professor of the Central Conservatory of Music, and followed his protégé to learn piano under his recommendation.

"We rent a house in Beijing, Jiajun usually attends a blind school, and learns with piano teacher once or twice a week."

From amateur to professional, Jiajun had some discomforts at first.

In the eyes of his father, the young Jiajun always soaks on the piano, trying to break through his limits.

In 2008, Jiajun performed a four-handed play with Lang Lang on the same stage at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, and was called the "Master of the Future" by Lang Lang.

In 2009, he was admitted to the High School Attached to the Central Conservatory of Music, and since then entered the Central Conservatory of Music with the sixth place in the professional examination...

Years of accompaniment and study have enabled Gehong, who was originally a music layman, to communicate with his son in music.

Father and son always have endless topics in common.

He knew better that his son's footsteps did not stop there, and it might be a good choice to go abroad for further studies.

Previously, during his four-year undergraduate study at the Central Conservatory of Music, Lai Jiajun obtained the qualification for postgraduate with excellent results.

During the summer vacation of 2017, Lai Jiajun was invited to the United States and attended the famous Brevard Summer Music Festival in North Carolina. He met Professor Michael Cheltock and Professor Cheltok, the dean of the piano department of the University of Cincinnati School of Music. I appreciate Lai Jiajun's talent and talent, and hope he can go to the University of Cincinnati for further studies after graduation.

Continue to study at the Central Conservatory of Music, or go to the University of Cincinnati School of Music for further studies?

The late Austrian pianist Jörg Demus, who came to Lai Jiajun at a year-end, analyzed the pros and cons for him and wrote a recommendation letter for him.

This international piano player thought that Lai Jiajun was more suitable for choosing the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Later, Lai Jiajun accepted Mr. Demus's suggestion.

Contact schools, exams, interviews... In May 2019, Lai Jiajun, who was taking the undergraduate graduation exam at the Central Conservatory of Music, received an email from the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He was admitted to the college as a piano graduate student and enjoyed the highest scholarship. .

Currently, he is a second year graduate student at the University of Cincinnati School of Music.

In the United States, parents usually take turns to take care of Jiajun. “Actually, he has friends and teachers in the United States who are taking care of him, but parents can’t help but worry.”

When Ge Hong rented a room in the United States, he went to accompany him first, and after half a year, his wife went to accompany his son.

"Last year's New Year, a family of three finally reunited in the United States. We feel that the three of us are very happy together."

On the fourth day of this year's New Year, Lai Jiajun received a letter of acceptance for a doctorate in piano performance from the University of Cincinnati.

This Hangzhou guy will climb to the top of the field of piano art.

"Doctoral admission is mainly because Jiajun's favorite tutor recognizes his ability. Jiajun's chosen tutor is the dean of the piano department, and Jiajun is the only blind piano doctoral student accepted by him in the school." This Spring Festival, Jiajun did not Back to Hangzhou, her mother stayed with her in the United States.
