Since Tuesday, several cases of food poisoning have been identified.
Traceability surveys have shown that shellfish from the Arcachon basin were involved.
As a result, the Gironde prefecture decided on Thursday to ban fishing and marketing activities intended for human consumption, of all shellfish including oysters from the Arcachon basin and the Banc d 'Arguin.
Lots sold containing shellfish harvested or fished in these areas since February 8 will be withdrawn from sale.
