The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi celebrated the conclusion of the eighth edition of the "Young Writer in the Big Book" competition, which focused on the theme "Zayed's Ambition Embraces Space."

The names of the competition winners will be announced in a virtual ceremony organized in conjunction with the National Reading Month in March, and a selection of winning stories will be selected to honor their writers during a special ceremony within the activities of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which will be hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center during the period 23-29 May.

The Director of the Department of Libraries in the Department, Sheikha Muhammad Al Muhairi, said: “The most important characteristic of the Young Writer Competition in the Big Book is its contribution to supporting the literary talents of students in the country. Their sense of creativity, and contributes to establishing a new generation of writers. ''

She added: “Through this competition we seek to unleash the imagination of children, so we chose space to be the theme of the competition for this year. Space contributes to expanding children's perceptions, which is necessary to enhance their creative writing abilities, and it is also necessary to educate future generations of the state’s achievements in this. The sector, to urge them to work to build a better future for themselves and society in general. ”

The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi will print a book containing the winning stories, and distribute it to all schools in the country, to be included in school libraries, and distribute it in all public libraries in Abu Dhabi.

The department had published five publications for the “Young Writer in the Big Book” competition, namely: “Emirates Heritage” (2017), “Commemoration Day” (2018), “Zayed the Leader” (2019), “Mother of the Emirates Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak” ( 2019), and “Our Sheikhs are Our Model” (2020).
