Around seven months after the serious riots on Opernplatz in Frankfurt am Main, the city's district court pronounced the verdict in the first trial of the riots.

A 20-year-old was sentenced to 50 hours of community service by the juvenile court for serious breach of the peace, attempted assault and an attack on police officers, a court spokeswoman said.

In addition, the student with no criminal record has to pay 500 euros to the child welfare service and read the book "Deutschland im Blaulicht" by police officer Tania Kambouri.

Six more proceedings are pending at the Frankfurt district court.

The negotiation dates have not yet been set.

The accused are between 18 and 31 years old and mostly live in Frankfurt.

Around 3500 people had initially celebrated peacefully on the Opernplatz on the evening of July 18.

In the early morning hours of July 19, young men in varying numbers and participation are said to have banded together to throw glass bottles at police officers from the protection of the crowd.

Five police officers were injured in the riot.

There was material damage of at least 14,600 euros.
