The tools developed by the start-up Kinvent -

Kinvent

  • The Kinvent company is developing connected tools capable of monitoring patients, through "fun and engaging" physiotherapy sessions.

  • These tools make it possible to follow the progress of patients in their rehabilitation.

  • These devices, adopted by clinics or sports clubs, also make it possible to support people who have faced serious forms of Covid-19.

For three years, Kinvent has supported health and sports professionals in the rehabilitation of patients.

And in particular, in recent months, for the most serious cases of Covid-19.

The Montpellier start-up, hosted by the Cap Omega business incubator, is developing connected tools capable of ensuring their follow-up, through “fun and engaging” physiotherapy sessions.

Professionals have at their disposal a series of objects: dynamometers which monitor muscle strength or nervous fatigue, a gionometer which measures the amplitude of movement of the body's joints or platforms, which report on balance patients.

Used during rehabilitation exercises, all these tools transmit, via sensors, a wealth of information on physical condition on a single application, K Force, accessible on the App Store and Google Store.

Set training programs

"The results are available in real time, and make it possible to create training programs, by setting goals that match the ambitions or capacities of the patient," says Athanase Kollias, the creator of Kinvent.

For a patient, for example, who has cervical problems, torticollis, the movement sensor will be placed at the level of the head.

The professional will first measure the maximum amplitude of rotation of the head that he is able to do, then will set a training program.

It will progress little by little, to 70%, 80%, etc.

But never by exceeding its limits.

»Small games, such as a simulation of surfing, scuba diving or hang-gliding, can also make rehabilitation a little more fun.

These biomechanical tools also make it possible to support people who have faced serious forms of the coronavirus, and who have had sequelae.

“The Covid-19 has been there for a little over a year, and it is only now that we are starting to understand the consequences that this disease leaves.

Some patients, following a placement in intensive care for a fortnight, have lost 15 kg of muscles, continues the founder of the Montpellier company.

They need to re-muscle.

"The Muscle controller, developed by Kinvent, will thus allow, with the help of a physiotherapist, notes Athanase Kollias, to gradually regain pre-Covid-19 muscle capacity.

These tools have been adopted by 2,000 professionals, says the company, including health establishments or high-level sports clubs, such as the MHR, the local rugby club.

The company, which employs around twenty people, develops its products in Montpellier, and manufacture them in its own factory, in Thessaloniki, Greece.

And recently, Kinvent opened a branch in New York, in the United States.

"We have obtained an authorization from the American agency of medical devices, and we already have professionals who are interested", rejoices its founder, who plans to hire this year.
