Astronomy: this is a night in a bubble hotel to see the stars under the open sky
Awards: The best hotel in the world does not have five stars: it costs 40 euros per night
The
Urbistondo family
knew what San Sebastián lacked in hotel matters.
Actually, everyone sensed it: a small establishment with a sophisticated air well located in the
Bay of La Concha.
A luxurious and cozy little hotel that combines contemporary comforts with the spirit of the city's royal past, which welcomed
the summers of Elizabeth II
and other illustrious visitors.
But intuition alone was not enough.
You had to take a step forward when the opportunity came.
And the opportunity came two years ago, when one of the last
villas built in the 19th century
for aristocratic vacationers
went on sale
.
The Urbistondo family once again demonstrated their passion for hotels and the entrepreneurial spirit that led them to acquire the
Hotel de Londres
y de Inglaterra
a century ago
, located just three blocks from the villa for sale.
Thus began his new project,
Villa Favorita
, a little gem that opened its doors six months ago, after a well-spent period of fitting out this immaculate white property with English air with superb views of La Concha.
The bar of the Villa Favorita restaurant.
The location, unbeatable.
In some of the rooms and
suites
it has been successful to place the bed in front of the windows that open to the sea and the
island of Santa Clara.
It is not bad to wake up, at all, in these times of confinement.
Three floors have been added to the original two-story building, in a discreet and well-resolved intervention that respects the
character of the property
.
We therefore have two types of rooms, those located in the
original building,
with high ceilings and plaster moldings, and those located in the annex, with a more contemporary air.
It is a matter of taste.
A discreet intervention
In any case, the best recommendation is to spend the night in one of the 18
rooms and suites
with sea views out of the total of 23 that the hotel has.
Some have their own terrace, like the splendid duplex that crowns it.
Impeccable work by
Rafael Sitges
and his studio Et In Arcadia Ego, which boasts an
elegant,
sophisticated and contemporary
interior design
that at certain times makes the hotel remind us of the delicious JK Place.
The reception of the new hotel in San Sebastián.
Some pieces of furniture from the
owner family
have been rescued
.
Among them, the splendid clock that welcomes us at the entrance and that strikes the hours since 1832. The gastronomic chapter is at the height of everything else.
Argentine-born chef
Paulo Airaudo
has brought Amelia, and her Michelin star, to Villa Favorita from their former location on Calle Prim. A smart move in which it seems that everyone wins.
Excellent tasting menu
.
And a distinguished tapas option on the terrace and at the bar.
