What French know-how will Roselyne Bachelot lean towards?

The zinc roofs of Paris, the baguette de pain and a wine festival in Arbois (eastern France), are in the running for the unique candidacy that France will propose to the intangible heritage of Unesco, we learned on Tuesday. at the Ministry of Culture.

Mid-March, Roselyne Bachelot will have to decide between these three candidacies, and submit her choice to President Emmanuel Macron, it was specified, confirming information from the

Parisian

.

The French candidacy will be presented to the Unesco commission with a view to its classification, in the course of 2022. Nearly a hundred files around the world each year obtain the label of registration in the heritage of intangible goods, by virtue of the 2003 convention. France, which is one of the countries which has already obtained a large number of labels, can only present a candidate every two years.

Zinc, bread or wine

The candidacy of the zinc roofs, which cover a majority of the buildings of the capital, was already retained in the last selection, but had been capped on the post by that of the skiff (a boat) of Martinique, chosen from the register of " good practices ”of intangible heritage for the 2020 label.

It is the know-how of the construction and the restoration of these roofs which requires to be labeled.

This know-how embodies both the work of a profession - that of zinc roofers - and a palette of colors which gives unity to the capital seen from the sky, has inspired painters and which is today threatened in some neighborhoods by new construction.

The baguette de pain is a symbol of the daily life of the French, immortalized in films and advertisements.

The Biou d'Arbois in the Jura is a feast of medieval and religious origin, which has been transformed into a republican feast and is celebrated in early September.

The project must unite a concerned community

To compete for the prestigious label, the candidate must first be registered in the national inventory, as are hundreds of know-how and goods in France.

In a second step, it must be considered suitable for presentation to Unesco, on the advisory opinion of the Ethnological and Intangible Heritage Committee (CPEI).

To retain an application, the project must unite a community concerned, which is the case for French bakers and Parisian roofers.

Another strong argument is the ethnological specificity, as for the Biou d'Arbois, one explains to the ministry.
