  • Coronavirus: Why we will emerge from the pandemic with fewer friends ... but much better

The accumulated incidence (AI) gives another considerable drop and is now close to 400 (416.91), according to the data published this Monday by the Ministry of Health, after falling from 500 on Friday for the first time in a month.

The seven-day accumulated incidence data, which is also used to see the growth / decrease trends, also continues to decrease and goes from 154.89 cases on Friday to 145.91 this Monday.

By autonomous communities, Melilla continues to have the highest AI (616.28),

followed by Madrid (559.37, down 65 points), Castilla y León (508.35, down more than 140 points)

and Valencian Community (505 , 68, down more than 180 points since Friday).

They are followed below 500: Andalusia (498.37, down almost 90 points), Ceuta (476.54, down 20 points), Aragón (433.57, down almost 50 points), Asturias (416.41, down almost 70 points), the Basque Country (406.38, down more than 50 points) and La Rioja (404.99, down almost 170 points).

The rest are below 400.

Regarding the number of infections,

30,251 new cases

have been registered since Friday

, the lowest figure of a Monday in the last month and a half (a similar figure was registered on Monday, January 4, 30,579 after four days without publishing data) .

1,876 were diagnosed the previous day (363 in the Basque Country, 243 in Madrid and 195 in Andalusia), which

already raises the number of infections since the start of the pandemic in Spain to 3,086,286 cases

.

We have to continue mourning a high number of deaths, a parameter that will continue to show high figures for a few days,

although no figure in this indicator is good, no matter how low

.

Health reports 702 deaths since Friday, a number slightly lower than the three previous Mondays.

In the last seven days there are 1,230 registered deaths (245 in Andalusia, 240 in the Valencian Community, 121 in Castilla y León and 114 in Galicia, the rest of the Autonomous Communities below 100), which raises the total number of deaths in Spain since the start of the pandemic to 65,449.

The burden of care continues to ease little by little.

The percentage of beds occupied by patients with coronavirus in Spain

drops a little more and stands at 16.47%

(a figure that still exceeds the maximum risk threshold of 15%).

The percentage of intensive care beds is moving slower and is still very overloaded, but is below 40%: 37.95% (still well above the threshold for very high risk, which is at more than 25%).

As always, we must remember that these figures are only for Covid patients, we must add those who occupy ICU beds for other pathologies or interventions, so the degree of saturation is even higher.

Recover the Ucis

"The incidence has to reach very low levels to allow the ICUs to recover", has valued Fernando Simón, director of the CCAES, on the decrease in transmission that the data for this Monday have continued to reflect.

"Although little by little it is changing, it is still dark red

,

"

Simón warned, referring to the fact that most of Spain continues to be at the highest level of alarm.

"We must be very careful with the measures that we are relaxing."

"Some measures can be made more bearable,

but with a lot, a lot of care,

" the Health spokesman insisted.

"This decrease is progressively being observed", Simón has reflected on the occupation in hospitals, even with high pressure.

Stabilization of deceased

Regarding the number of deaths, he has indicated: "The deceased have been for a few days now that there

seems to be a stabilization and a beginning of the decline"

, but he has clarified that it is still "too early" to draw definitive conclusions.

"Depending on what we observe in the coming days, we can guarantee that this decrease has been confirmed or not," he has advanced.

Simón has also highlighted a piece of information that would indicate the effect of the vaccine: "We are confirming that the incidence in those over 65 who are in nursing homes

is lower

than the incidence in those over 65 who are not in nursing homes. That is, the group that is already vaccinated has a lower incidence, "explained the peidemiologist.

This change

"is important", he stressed, since "we had always observed a higher incidence

in those over 65 who were in residences."

"That, indirectly, supports the thesis that vaccines

are having an important impact

," Simón stressed.

Thus, in terms of ICU bed occupancy, the most saturated communities are:

La Rioja (55.17%), Castilla y León (49.01%), Madrid (48.73%)

, Melilla (47.06%), Valencian Community (46.04%), Castilla-La Mancha (44.01%), Ceuta (41.18%) and Catalonia (40.06%).

Still above 30% are Asturias (39.34%, up almost two points), Aragon (37.71%), Basque Country (35.70%), Andalusia (34.35%) and the Balearic Islands (30, 77%).

As for Europe, Russia continues to lead the contagion ranking (4,071,883), closely followed by the United Kingdom, which

has

also

exceeded the 4 million

threshold (4,038,078), in third place France (3,465. 163) and fourth Spain (3,086,286).

Fifth Italy (2,721,879) and sixth Turkey with 2,579,896.

They are followed by Germany (2,338,987) and below two million Poland (1,588,955) and Ukraine (1,271,143).

By number of deaths, the United Kingdom continues to occupy the first place, being the only country in Europe that exceeds 100,000 deaths with some difference over the rest (117,166).

It is followed by Italy (93,577), France (81,814), Russia (80,126), Spain (65,449) and Germany (65,076).

Our hospitals are beginning to decrease the numbers of hospitalized patients and ICUs very slowly, following the decline in infections and the accumulated incidence.

But hospital centers continue to bear a high healthcare burden since these patients require admission for a long time.

To date there are 21,030 patients admitted for Covid, a similar figure to that of January 15

, when 19,657 patients had been admitted.

Of those more than 21,000, 4,046 correspond to Madrid, 3,652 to Catalonia, 3,429 to Andalusia, 2,469 to the Valencian Community and below Castilla y León (1,611) and Castilla-La Mancha (911).

"It makes no sense to vaccinate outside health institutions"

Regarding the possibility of mass vaccination in stadiums, Simó has considered that,

"outside health institutions, it makes no sense right now" to vaccinate.

"If someone proposes it, I understand that it will give explanations of why it proposes it," he said about that strategy.

Simón has highlighted that the decline in transmission reflects a

"lower incidence in all age groups".

"The decrease that we are observing in the incidence is observed in all age groups," he indicated.

Asked about the debate around the possible mandatory nature of FFP2 masks, the director of the CCAES has asked that "who you want to protect" be assessed with this eventual measure.

"If what we want is to protect others, the surgical mask has a greater capacity to filter outward

,

"

said Simón, and added: "The hygienic masks that are approved in Spain have a filtering capacity to guarantee a very safe , very high, as long as they are carried in the places where they have to be carried ".

"The recommendation is to guarantee cross ventilation and keep the windows open," Simón pointed out about the classrooms.

A recommendation, he estimated, that every time makes more sense as the bad weather recedes.

"We have been at minus 10 degrees"

, has justified on the difficulty of maintaining this measure in the middle of winter.

"We must go very slowly and with lead feet", has insisted Simón, who has warned of the "risk of a fourth wave that we would not like anyone."

"We continue to be in a very bad situation at the national level," he stressed.

"

We still have a long, many weeks. We have to be very careful."

"It is taking up space," he admitted about the British variant, "but the number of cases is decreasing every day," he assessed on the incidence.

In the case of confirming that the variant is occupying more and more space, Simón explained,

"it does not mean that we have more cases: we have a greater proportion of the variant in the cases that we have."
