As part of its preparations for the national reading month, the Ministry of Culture and Youth announced the launch of the slogan “My Family Reads” for the month of reading 2021, with the aim of supporting and strengthening the role of fathers in inculcating a love for reading among children, highlighting its importance and its great role in early childhood development, and its consolidation of a permanent community culture and habit among members of society And enhancing its role as a key driver and indicator of family cohesion and bonding, and focusing on it for the purpose of fun, exploration and inspiration for children in the UAE society.

The slogan emanates from the country's leadership’s interest in reading and its development, especially among young people, and the UAE’s unique reading law, which constituted a historic turning point in the process of supporting reading locally, as well as its reliance on international and local studies that indicated the need to encourage parents to read to their children, so that it becomes a community and family habit that promotes Interdependence and rapprochement between all.

The Minister of Culture and Youth, Noura bint Muhammad Al-Kaabi, said, “The slogan of the month of reading this year crowns the family as a principal, incubator and effective partner. We rely on him a lot in the love of reading for children and making it an established habit for them. Today they may be children, but they are definitely all tomorrow. We see them in the heart of The next 50 years, as we see that the knowledgeable and specific person in his faculties is a net profit for himself first, his family, his society and his country.

She added, "Our role is complementary and participatory with all state institutions, and we believe that reading is a foundation and sustainability. Therefore, the month of reading 2021 in our view is not just a ceiling for 30 days, but a floor that extends its influence over the course of an entire year."

She said: “We are interested in working with all state institutions to harness all available efforts and initiatives to raise the profile of the culture of reading. We see reading as a civilized act on an individual level. In the end, we aim to formulate a cognitive person who will be part of a generous, creative society, aware of his role. Patriotic, and understanding of his humanitarian mission, and this is what we consider a major priority in all our annual agendas ».

His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, had issued the National Reading Law, the first of its kind in the world, with the aim of supporting the development of human capital, contributing to building mental and cognitive capabilities, supporting national intellectual production, and building knowledge societies in the country. .

The National Reading Law establishes binding frameworks for all government agencies in the educational, societal, media and cultural sectors, to consolidate reading among all segments of society at all ages, and seeks to consecrate reading as one of the constant aspects of public facilities in the country, and the law covers everything related to reading, including development, publication, promotion and regulations. Supportive, to ensure the continuity of efforts to devote reading.

The Reading Law establishes a fixed and available right to everyone from birth, by providing three knowledge bags that cover the needs of the child, from infancy until the age of four, with one bag every two years.
