In the Rhône, as in other French departments, certain restaurants are authorized to reopen their doors to accommodate a few customers: construction site workers only.

And this during the lunch break.

An agreement has been made between the Rhône prefecture, the construction federation and the UMIH (union of hotel trades and industries) to prevent employees from taking their lunch break outside, in the cold or sometimes under the rain.

This concerns more than 52,000 employees according to the departmental building and public works federation, specifying that the needs are more significant in rural areas.

Employees who must present a card

To be authorized to open, restaurants had to sign a temporary agreement with the companies concerned.

However, the rules will be strict: no more than four people from the same company at the table and a distance of two meters between each chair.

Employees will also have to present an identification card certifying that they work well in the construction or public works sector in order to avoid any abuse.

The general public is therefore not affected by this partial reopening of restaurants, which will however retain the benefit of government aid, as the Ministry of the Economy had assured.
