Several hundred thousand doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine are expected in France, so that city doctors can administer them to their patients aged 50 to 64 who present with comorbidities.

But due to the shortage, the number of doses available to each doctor will initially be limited.

The equation is not simple.

The government intends to have vaccinated against Covid-19 all French people who so wish by the end of the summer ... while taking into account the urgency for fragile audiences, the number of doses available and the number of caregivers ready to vaccinate.

And precisely, from February 25, city doctors will have the opportunity to inject the AstraZeneca vaccine on 50-64 year olds who present with comorbidities.

Pharmacists are also expected to join the campaign in March.

700,000 doses expected at the end of February

To be vaccinated, you must meet several conditions: be between 50 and 64 years old and have risk factors such as obesity, diabetes or suffering from respiratory diseases.

Your doctor will then come to you.

"I am going to print the list of all my patients. And I will look in this list at those who, in my opinion, have priority", explains Jacques Battistoni, president of the MG France union, at the microphone of Europe 1. "Then, I make a few phone calls to invite them to get vaccinated. "

Will the objectives be achieved?

As of Wednesday, February 17, 700,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine are expected in pharmacies.

However, due to the shortage, the number of available doses will initially be limited.

Each volunteer doctor will be able to collect a vial the first week, then two or three the week of March 1st.

Inside each vial: ten doses, for ten patients.

But that will not be enough, fears Bertrand Legrand, general practitioner in Tourcoing.

"I have 280 people to vaccinate. At this rate, we will not have enough doses to have completed this target before the month of June. It is completely inconsistent," he laments at the microphone of Europe 1.
