One goal and Cameroon already have one foot in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Cameroonians, 1-0 winners of the opening match against Mauritania, this Sunday, February 14 at the Olympic stadium in Nouakchott, now have very little chance of being eliminated in the group stage, since the two best thirds of the three groups will be qualified.

A fatal mistake for Mauritanians

Under the eyes of Samuel Eto'o, whose 18-year-old son Etienne Eto'o Pineda is in the Cameroonian group, the “Cubs” therefore disposed of the host country thanks to a goal at the end of Sunday Junior's match.

The young striker took advantage of a big mistake from the right side Abou Oumar Diallo who did not support his pass enough to goalkeeper Mohamed El Mokhtar, preceded in his exit by the opportunist Sunday Junior (82nd).

Cameroon, winner of the 2019 Under-17 CAN, perfectly launches this

competition, expanded to 12 teams against 8 previously

but which takes place without the last two sacred selections (Mali, Zambia) and the finalist of the last two editions (Senegal) .

For Mauritania, which is participating in its first CAN U20, this inaugural defeat is far from prohibitive.

Young Mauritanians will be able to relaunch on Wednesday February 17 against one of the other five novices, Mozambique.

Cameroonians, provisional leaders of Group A, will be opposed to Uganda.

On the program this Monday February 15

Uganda-Mozambique at 1 p.m. UT (Group A)

Burkina Faso-Tunisia at 4 p.m. UT (Group B)

Namibia-Central African Republic at 7 p.m. UT (Group B)
