The Catalans are called to the polls tomorrow in the most complex circumstances in which elections have never been held in Spain.

85% of the citizens of the region live in municipalities at

extreme risk from the pandemic

.

In this uncertainty, a low-profile campaign was closed last night and it is impossible to gauge to what extent participation and the very development of the electoral process will be affected, with many doubts about the formation of voting tables in all places.

It was not sensible that the elections were kept for this Sunday

.

Decision for which the socialists as well as the independentistas at the head of the Catalan institutions are as jointly responsible that, after another sterile legislature dominated by misgovernment, they allowed time to run without lifting a finger to establish mechanisms that would facilitate participation and that only raised the suspension of this call - not even the postponement - in discount time because some surveys were unfavorable to them.

The secessionist leaders were not concerned about the health of the citizens, and neither were Moncloa, where they have trusted everything to an Illa effect that seemed to be fading away at a forced march

.

This pushed

Pedro Sánchez

, out of sheer tacticism, to put supposed electoral expectations before the interest of the whole of Spaniards by refusing to change a comma of the current decree of the state of alarm so that the 14-F is a reality.

But reality is what it is.

And it is

no longer possible to appeal to all citizens to exercise special responsibility since, with all the necessary protection measures, they go to the polls

.

There will be no use later lamenting or speculating on abstention.

Many or few, those who vote will decide in

elections that seem extraordinarily important for the future of Catalonia and the rest of Spain

.

Hence, we can rely on a participation as massive as possible.

Because there is a risk, once again, that a minority of Catalans especially mobilized by an identity creed that takes precedence over anything else will claim the right to speak on behalf of such a plural society.

Constitutionalism is at stake tomorrow

.

First, because it is too divided, and this can pay dearly with an electoral system that favors the independence movement so much due to the over-representation of some constituencies.

But above all, because if the campaign has shown anything, it is that it

is an absolute fallacy that secessionism is deflated

.

The

procés is

still alive, it continues, no matter how much the Sánchez government acts like a blind man who does not want to see and continues to give ammunition to those who intend to blow up the nation by joining their dialogue tables for independence.

The all against Illa, signed by the Catalan disruptive forces, is a grotesque performance, yes, but it illuminates the only purpose shared by the entire nationalist alphabet soup

.

Illa, for her part, raises these elections as a plebiscite on her figure, which has led her to inexplicable and suspicious eccentricities such as the refusal to do a PCR.

But let the Catalans do not forget that

what they decide tomorrow is whether to continue sliding down the crazy slope that has already lost Catalonia a decade of progress

and threatens everyone's freedoms.
