The group stage of the CAF Champions League started this Friday, February 12 with the poor performance of the two Congolese clubs (TP Mazembe and AS Vita Club), the unstoppable victory of Horoya de Conakry and the great debut in the competition of Senegalese from Teungueth FC.

The 2020-2021 Champions League starts badly for the two Congolese clubs involved.

The AS Vita Club which opened the ball on Friday February 12, lost at home against the champion of Tanzania, Simba SC (0-1), during this first day.

Ironically, it was a Congolese who scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot: Chris Mugalu.

AS V. Club, which is in the group of African champion Al Ahly (opposed to the Sudanese Al Merreikh on February 16), shoots itself in the foot.

The other club of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Tout Puissant Mazembe also remained silent against the Algerian club CR Belouizdad, but at least managed to keep its clean sheet, this Saturday, February 13 (0-0) .

In Lubumbashi, the DRC champion monopolized the ball without really worrying the goalkeeper.

If they want to take off, the "

Ravens

" will have to be sharper in ten days against the Sudanese Al Hilal, beaten 2-0 on the lawn of Mamelodi Sundowns.

The South African champion therefore takes the lead of group B.

A draw for very weak Ravens

Knowing that by starting a group stage at home, it is imperative to win and send the others a strong signal, the @TPMazembe has missed the check mark.https: //t.co/2bjc1KGZsZ pic.twitter.com/LRspcamtdI

Horoya solid

Unlike the two Congolese teams, the Guineans from Horoya AC started the competition perfectly, dominating Petro de Luanda at home (2-0), this Saturday, February 13.

A victory obtained without trembling thanks to a penalty goal from Burkinabè Dramane Nikiema (36th) and another at the end of the match from Yakhouba Barry (85th).

The Conakry club was well helped by the expulsion just before the break of Joaquim Adao (44th).

This bodes well ahead of the South Africans' trip to Kaizer Chiefs FC, whose first day match against Wydad Casablanca has been postponed.

Teungueth FC overthrown for debut

Cruel introduction for the new kid on this 2020-2021 edition.

Teungueth FC cracked in the last quarter of an hour against Esperance Tunis, in Radès (2-1).

The Senegalese team thought, however, to have done the hardest by opening the scoring on the lawn of the African champion 2018 and 2019, thanks to the Gambian Gibril Sillah (33rd).

But just before the break, ES Tunis equalized on a penalty from Taha Khenissi, before taking the advantage through Khalid Abdul Basit, from the head (74th).

Promoted to the Senegalese Ligue 1 only five years ago, the Rufisque club made a good impression by surprising a giant of the Continent.

In ten days, another ogre will appear: Zamalek, finalist of the previous edition, and held in check by MC Alger (0-0).

The results of this first day of the group stage:

Group A

AS Vita Club (DR Congo) 0-1 Simba (Tanzania)

Tuesday February 16: Al Ahly (Egypt) - El Merreikh (Sudan)
