The annual "Iiyama Snow Festival", which displays huge snow sculptures in Iiyama City, one of the most heavy snowfall areas in Nagano Prefecture, began on the 13th with measures to prevent infection with the new coronavirus.

This year's 39th "Iiyama Snow Festival" is held as a measure to prevent infection, with snow sculptures scattered throughout the city without a main venue to prevent crowds.

Among them, around JR Iiyama Station, five huge snow sculptures with a height of about 5 meters with the theme of Amabie are exhibited in hopes of the end of the new corona.

In addition, there was a snow sculpture with a large rock motif that appeared in the popular manga "Kimetsu no Yaiba", and parents and children who visited were imitating cutting rocks with a toy sword and taking pictures.

A 12-year-old boy from Obuse-cho said, "I came here for the first time, but it's amazing. I'm glad I could see it."

Mitsuru Uemura, executive committee chairman of the Iiyama Snow Festival, said, "We considered canceling the festival due to the influence of the new corona, but we were able to hold it with the cooperation of infection control. I want you to come visit us. "

The "Iiyama Snow Festival" will be held until the 14th, and the snow sculpture will be lit up from 5 pm to 9 pm on the 13th.
