Munich: 28,000 false FFP2 masks distributed to those in need

In Munich there was a breakdown when issuing FFP2 masks to those in need.

Masks that did not meet the FFP2 standard were distributed, said the spokesman for the Munich fire department, Klaus Heimlich, on Friday.

“The Chinese standard KN95 is stamped on the masks.

This is comparable to the European protection level FFP2. ”The masks are not completely ineffective, but they only have about half the protective effect.

The "Süddeutsche Zeitung" reported on it.

"We are trying to organize the exchange as quickly as possible for the people who have received these 28,000 masks," said the spokeswoman for the Munich social department, Hedwig Thomalla, on Friday.

"We will issue official information about which masks are involved and how the exchange should work."

A total of 500,000 masks were distributed, including this non-standard batch.

This was delivered in spring 2020.

"The origin of the masks is no longer 100 percent traceable," said Heimlich.

It could have been a donation, or the masks could have arrived at the city via an intermediary.
