The English variant of the coronavirus is spreading in France and the overseas departments are no exception.

It was detected in nine people in Guadeloupe and Saint-Martin, announced the prefecture of Guadeloupe on Friday.

"These are the first cases identified in the territory," said one to the prefecture of Guadeloupe.

They are "five residents of Guadeloupe and four of Saint-Martin", people "mainly young".

The "contact-tracing is in progress and the investigations in search of contacts at risk, broadened around these people detected positive", also explains the press release.

Scheduled festive gatherings

Positive people, as well as those "at risk" must respect "the period of isolation and the strict application of gestures and barrier measures", details the press release from the prefecture which calls for a "surge of caution", particularly in "this Carnival holiday period ”.

Shrove Days (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday preceding Ash Wednesday) are festive days and holidays, conducive to family reunions and friends.

The English variant of Covid-19 has already been present in Martinique for a good week.

Twenty-three cases have been identified there, according to the last count dating from Thursday.
