The indicted were unemployed Hiroki Kanai (29) and his wife Azusa (28) in Misato Town, Saitama Prefecture.
According to the indictment, Kanai was injured at home around August last year, including pushing a baby bottle into the mouth of his fourth daughter, Kisora, and breaking his jaw.
After that, he was accused of lethal injury and abandonment of the person in charge of protection, alleging that he had difficulty drinking milk and was not treated even though he was not well-nourished and left for about a month to die.
On the other hand, his wife, Azusa, was charged with abandoning the protection officer for letting Kisora die with Kanai.
The two were arrested last month on suspicion of abandonment of the protection officer, but the prosecutor's office determined that the father could also be accused of injury and death.
The approval or disapproval of the two has not been disclosed.
