  • In addition to state aid, the Brittany region has urgently released an envelope of 500,000 euros to deal with student precariousness.

  • Paid to the CROUS, the money will be used in particular to purchase food and hygiene products.

  • The region also plans to activate its economic networks to help young people find an internship or a summer job.

They are the silent victims of the health crisis.

For the most part deprived of face-to-face lessons and locked up in small accommodation, the students are in low spirits.

In a recent survey published by the Union Pirate union, the majority at Rennes 2 University, 51% of them declared “feeling bad or rather bad”, some even evoking suicidal thoughts.

In addition to this psychological distress, there are also financial difficulties.

Deprived of odd jobs, more and more students are falling into precariousness, having all the trouble in the world to pay their rent or go shopping.

Faced with this situation, the State has implemented measures such as meals for one euro in the Crous or the payment of aid of 150 euros to beneficiaries of APL.

Food and psychological help

In addition, the Brittany region has also just released funds in order to "take care of its youth", according to its president Loïg Chesnais-Girard.

A first envelope of 500,000 euros has thus just been paid to the regional management of Crous.

In particular, it should enable the supply of four solidarity grocery stores on the Rennes and Brest campuses as well as the financing of vouchers for students far from food parcel distribution points.

"There is also a very strong demand for hygiene products", underlines Loïg Chesnais-Girard.

The region's aid will not only be food but also psychological with 150,000 euros released to strengthen the means in the health services of universities.

In the coming weeks, the Brittany region also plans to activate economic networks such as Product in Brittany or to help young people find an internship or a summer job with local companies.
