According to him, the height of the snow cover can increase to 20-25 cm.

“A process called“ exit of the southern cyclone ”is predicted.

Despite the affectionate name, the negative consequences of its release will be very significant.

On Thursday, late in the evening, the center of the cyclone will approach the Moscow region, it will snow, which will be continuous, it will intensify and decrease variably.

Snowfall will last at least two days - from late Thursday evening to Friday-Saturday.

It will be the strongest for the entire current winter season, ”he said.

Muscovites should prepare for a traffic collapse these days due to a combination of heavy snowfall and wind gusts up to 18 m / s.

“There will be a collapse in Moscow, there will be problems with ground traffic, since the visibility will be minimal, it will be impossible to remove this snow, because it will go constantly, without interruption,” added Wilfand.

As the chief specialist of the Moscow meteorological office Tatyana Pozdnyakova noted, the capital region will be under the influence of the Mediterranean cyclone from Friday, February 12.

“Such a cyclone is very energy intensive, with large reserves of heat, because for some time in the Mediterranean there was a very high temperature and it managed to gain heat and moisture during the period of maximum heating.

She indicated that Moscow in the coming days will face a "snowy apocalypse", half of the monthly rainfall is expected.

“Such snowfalls are extremely rare in Moscow.

“On the day of February 11, -12 ...- 10 ° C is forecasted, on Friday, February 12, the next front will come up: there will be cloudy weather on Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

February 12-13 - heavy snow, on Sunday it will already subside.

Nighttime temperatures: -15 ... -12 ° C, in the region in some places it is expected to -18 ° C, daytime temperatures will be -12 ... -10 ° C, ”he added.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Public Utilities and Improvement, Pyotr Biryukov, emphasized that all city services are on high alert, about 13.5 thousand units of snow removal equipment are involved.

On the official portal of the Moscow government, the townspeople were warned about the worsening weather (blizzard, wind gusts up to 18 m / s, ice on the roads) until 15:00 Saturday, February 13.

At the same time, frosts will remain in the regions of the Northwestern Federal District, with a little snow in some places.

“Abnormally cold weather will remain in the Vologda (February 11-13) and Arkhangelsk regions (February 11-14) with an average daily temperature of 7 ° C or more below normal, as well as in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug (February 11-14) and in the Komi Republic (February 13-16) with an average daily temperature below the climatic norm by 10 ° C or more, ”the forecasters explained.
