Weather conditions are deteriorating in the north of the country.

Consequence: Météo France placed 36 departments on orange vigilance this Tuesday for the risk of extreme cold, snow and ice or floods.

Orange vigilance for snow and ice concerns 31 departments over a large half of the country, from Bas-Rhin to Finistère via Ile-de-France.

"The disturbance in place in Brittany will gradually gain towards the east", indicates Météo France.

"In contact with the cold air coming from the north, the precipitation will fall in the form of snow. An episode of freezing rain is possible in the contact zone between the cold snowy air in the north and the mild rainy air in the south: on Pays de la Loire in the evening, Burgundy and Franche-Comté side in the second part of the night. "

In Ile-de-France, 2 to 7 cm of snow are expected.

Up to -17 degrees felt

The north of the country will be affected by an orange alerge for extreme cold, which encompasses four departments of Hauts-de-France: Nord, Pas-de-Calais, Somme and Aisne.

"During the next night, the minimum temperatures will change little, and will generally be between -7 and -8 ° C except in the south of the Aisne where they will be between -5 and -6 ° C", according to the forecasting body.

With temperatures felt from -14 to -17 ° C in the Nord-pas-de-Calais, the Somme and a northern part of the Aisne.

It will also be cold, especially in Normandy or the Paris region, with temperatures felt between -10 and -15 ° C on Wednesday and Thursday.

The mayor of Paris also called on the government on Monday to trigger the "extreme cold" plan which allows in particular the accommodation of the homeless.
