A hundred associations for the defense of the environment or the fight against poverty have called on Emmanuel Macron to "revive" climate ambitions, before the presentation on Wednesday of the climate bill, whose lack of "breath" they regret.

In an open letter to the President of the Republic posted online Monday, these 110 organizations denounce the "lack of ambition" of the "Climate and Resilience" bill resulting from the proposals of the Citizen's Climate Convention (CCC), which will be presented Wednesday in the Council of Ministers.

"The account is not there"

"While the citizens' proposals had to be transcribed into the law, it is clear that the account is not there", estimate Greenpeace, the Nicolas Hulot Foundation, WWF, but also the Abbé Pierre Foundation, ATD Fourth World, Attac or the CFDT, UFC-Que Choisir, and the Confédération paysanne.

"Mr. President of the Republic, by thus reducing the ambition of the measures proposed by the Citizen's Convention on the Climate, you are depriving our country of a tremendous potential to exit from crises, climatic, health, economic and social", insist the organizations.

“The expected benefits of the measures proposed by the 150 citizens are nevertheless numerous: fewer people living in energy sieves, reduced air pollution, healthier food accessible to all, a less emitting mobility offer and more inclusive, more jobs in key sectors of ecological transition, etc. ”, they continue.

Unraveled proposals?

“As the parliamentary debate begins, our organizations expect your government and our nation's representatives to revive the original ambition of this bill.

Do not deprive our country of this new breath which it needs more than ever ”, they insist, regretting in particular that the text adopts an approach of“ encouragement ”to change practices“ where public intervention is required ” .

End of the rental of thermal strainers in 2028, ban on advertising for fossil fuels, ban on domestic flights if there is an alternative by train in less than 2:30 ... The bill reflects, according to the government, nearly half of the 149 CCC proposals intended to reduce France's greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to 1990. But defenders of the planet have denounced for several months a unraveling of these proposals.
