First trips of the new TER LIOs to Toulouse in July 2019 -

Grimault Emmanuel - Région Occitanie

  • The Occitanie region and the SNCF will be testing, from April 1, free TER for 18-26 year olds.

  • This device, which consists of promoting rail travel among young people, will be generalized in September.

  • The first five round trips will be half price, then free from the sixth round trip.

To boost tourism and reduce holidaymakers' purses, this summer, the Occitanie region and SNCF launched the one euro train ticket.

An offer that has increased rail ridership by 13% while it collapsed everywhere else, especially among young people.

“Almost 60% of those who benefited from the 1.2 million euro banknotes are under 26 years old.

We could not let fall this craze for the train ”, pleads Carole Delga, the president of the region.

After launching LibertiO'Jeunes at the start of the school year (reduced rates at - 50% on weekdays for 18-26 year olds), the community and the rail network have decided to move up a gear by experimenting with free access from April 1 with 2,000 young users, before its generalization on September 1.

“As of February 22, they will be able to register and download the application.

The first five round trips will be at half price, from the sixth to the tenth round trip they will be free and from the 11th round trip, the user has a pot to have the extension of the free service the following month, ”explains Carole Delga.

New users

Thus, the more the young person travels, the less he will pay.

An offer, unprecedented at the national level, which complements that of LibertiO'Jeunes, which increased the traffic of 18-25 year olds by 300% last year compared to 2019. “Thanks to these offers, many young people have discovered the train and have abandoned carpooling.

This remains the most economical and ecological choice ”, recalls Philippe Bru, regional director of SNCF Voyageurs Occitanie.

When this system is generalized next September, the objective is to be able to provide 5,000 users in this age group with free access, at a cost estimated by the region at 1.5 million euros.
