new deaths within 24 hours.

The number of cases recorded is usually lower on Mondays, partly because fewer tests are carried out on the weekend.

This means that 100 infected people infect another 94 people.

The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.

Hanover records an increase in virus mutants

display

The Hanover region reported a significant increase in corona infections with the virus mutants on Monday.

74 positive samples were examined and the virus mutant B.1.1.7, which was first identified in Great Britain, was found in 32 of them, the health department announced.

"So we have to assume that the proportion of mutations is clearly in the double-digit percentage range," said Cora Hermenau, health department head of the Hanover region.

The Robert Koch Institute estimated on Friday that the proportion was 5.8 percent.

However, a rapid spread of the more contagious virus mutants is expected.

Corona worldwide

The UK

reported 14,104 new infections on Monday, the lowest level in two months.

The government has announced that 12.3 million citizens have now received at least one vaccination.

About 66.7 million people live in the UK.

By mid-February, the British government wants to have offered vaccinations to the most vulnerable groups - including those over the age of 70, people with pre-existing conditions, and medical and nursing staff - and thus 15 million people.

We are currently confident that this milestone will be achieved.

All over-50s should then receive a vaccination by May.

In

Russia

, the number of corona deaths is more than twice as high as officially stated.

The national statistics office Rosstat announced on Monday.

In 2020 alone, more than 162,000 Russians died from the virus.

On the same day, however, the government's official Corona website reported 77,068 deaths since the pandemic began.

Only cases are listed there in which Covid-19 has been confirmed as the cause of death.

There has been repeated criticism of this counting method.
