In an old people's and nursing home in Belm in the Osnabrück district, there was an outbreak of the British Corona variant despite the vaccination.

In 14 seniors the virus is B.1.1.7.

has been proven - even though all residents were vaccinated for the second time on January 25, the district announced on Sunday.

The home, all employees and their families have been quarantined.

Eugen Brysch from the German Foundation for Patient Protection asked the Ministry of Health to closely monitor nursing homes after the second vaccination.

Otherwise there would be no reliable data on the risk the mutation posed for the high-risk group.

So far there have only been asymptomatic or mild courses of the disease in the residents, which could be a positive effect of the vaccination, said the press spokesman for the Osnabrück district, Burkhard Riepenhoff, with reference to information from the responsible medical officer.

The product from Biontech / Pfizer was vaccinated.

When exactly the residents were infected is unclear.

It is becoming more and more apparent that vaccinated people are not immune to the corona virus and could also pass it on, said Brysch.

The vaccination could be helpful to prevent the outbreak of the disease.

"It doesn't have to be a terrible scenario, we will live with the virus," he said.

The district announced that the positive results in the daily quick tests of the employees on February 2nd were noticeable.

When the residents were completely tested and the viruses were typed, 14 cases of the British variant were then detected at the end of last week.

Five of the employees live in neighboring districts, which is why the Osnabrück district has informed the local health authorities about the quarantine.

For the employees who tested negative, the commuting quarantine means that they are only allowed to leave their homes to go to work.

An outpatient care service is also housed in the old people's home, but is structurally separated from the care stations.

Its employees would also be tested for Corona as a precaution.
