The Israelis deconfin themselves from Sunday February 7.

The confinement in force for more than a month in Israel to fight against the spread of Covid-19 is gradually being lifted.

Strict containment had been extended four times in Israel, a country which has been carrying out a vast vaccination campaign since December, with more than 3.3 million people having received their first dose.

Despite the restrictions, January was the deadliest month, with more than 1,000 deaths from the virus.

According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health, the country of 9 million inhabitants has officially recorded more than 675,000 cases, including 5,019 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The Jewish state is currently registering an average of around 6,500 new cases per day, up from around 8,000 in mid-January, according to official figures.

"The government accepted the proposal of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Health to relax the containment measures from Sunday at 7 a.m. (5 a.m. GMT)," the Prime Minister's office and this ministry said on Friday. in a joint press release.

Flights still suspended

Israelis will then be able to move beyond one kilometer from their home and certain services (hairdressers, beauty treatments) will be authorized again.

Nature reserves and national parks will be able to reopen, like guesthouses, but only to nuclear families.

Hotels will remain closed and restaurants will only be allowed to take out food.

International flights to and from Ben-Gurion International Airport, almost all suspended since January 24, will not resume until February 20, the government has decided.

Land borders also remain closed.

"I call on the public to respect the instructions and to get vaccinated so that the economy can resume gradually and responsibly," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

The cabinet must meet again on Sunday to decide on the continuation of the deconfinement measures.
