The Brandenburg Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVBB) is examining a media report according to which large amounts of vaccination doses are said to have been destroyed in vaccination centers.

You will investigate, said KVBB spokesman Christian Wehry.

He also said: “I have no knowledge of this and I cannot understand it”.

He found out about the alleged incident from the newspaper.

The “Märkische Oderzeitung” previously reported in its online edition that, among other things, in the vaccination center in Oranienburg, larger amounts of unused vaccine had apparently ended up in the garbage in the past few weeks.

The newspaper has an internal protocol from KVBB members, it said.

The reason for the disposal of the vaccination doses is incorrect planning and poor communication between those responsible, according to the newspaper report.

Wehry said that the colleagues on site would do everything to ensure that the vaccine doses are fully used.

So that no vaccine has to be discarded, there is a strict vaccination box ordering process for the vaccination centers.

Among other things, the daily ordering of the vaccine requirement is based on the planned dates.

The remaining amount of the current day will be deducted when ordering the next day.

According to Wehry, this will prevent the vaccine from expiring.

The Ministry of Health is also unaware of such events.

"After consulting the head of the Oranienburg vaccination center, we cannot confirm the allegation," said a spokesman when asked.

In rare individual cases, impurities can be found that lead to discard.

The ministry is not aware of any "larger quantities" being rejected, neither in Oranienburg nor in other vaccination centers.
