It is the International Football Federation (FIFA) which will decide whether Ahmad can run for a second term as President of the African Football Confederation (CAF) on March 12, 2021 in Rabat.

The government (Executive Committee) of CAF has indeed decided that it is up to FIFA to decide on the eligibility of the Malagasy.

The current boss of African football, however, had just received the green light from the CAF Governance Commission.

There is now very little chance of Ahmad running for his own succession at the head of African football.

Its eligibility for the elections of March 12, 2021 will indeed depend on a decision of the International Football Federation (FIFA).

A FIFA whose Ethics Committee had suspended the Malagasy for five years, last November.

And who is not likely to change his mind about the probity of the president of the African Football Confederation (CAF).

Restored at least temporarily in this function by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS), Ahmad experienced a real cold shower on February 6, 2021 in Yaoundé.

While the Governance Commission of CAF, responsible for studying the candidates' files, had just declared him eligible for the March ballot, the "government" of CAF (Executive Committee), for its part, decided not to follow. this opinion, under article 44 of the statutes of the institution.

This stipulates that the Governance Committee “advises” the Executive Committee (ComEx) but that its decisions are not necessarily sovereign over those of the ComEx.

Very heated debates

Different sources agree that the meeting of the Executive Committee on Saturday was very stormy.

Its members discussed the role of FIFA in the future elections.

The FIFA Control Committee, which has already validated the files of the Ivorian Jacques Anouma, the South African Patrice Motsepe, the Senegalese Augustin Senghor and the Mauritanian Ahmed Yahya, should it take precedence over the governance of CAF?

The ExC decided that yes, at the end of a stormy debate… Of a postponement of the elections of March 12, so that Ahmad has time to clarify his situation with FIFA, he would not on the other hand been really question.

In Ahmad's camp, it is in any case astonishment.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport will examine the five-year suspension imposed on the Malagasy.

It will be on March 2.

Until then, there is very little chance that the FIFA Control Committee will allow him to re-run for the presidency of CAF.
