The ski resorts of the Nice Côte d'Azur metropolis have managed to maintain an “interesting number of visitors on weekends and for holidays” by opening some ski lifts and part of the slopes since December 9, in accordance with anti- Covid-19.

"This decision to keep the areas open to the authorized public generates a deficit" but, despite an influx that caps at 6% of normal, it has "a positive economic impact", says the community.

It flatters that Auron and Isola 2000 are the “only resorts in France to offer part of their ski area with working ski lifts”, five in the first and six for the second, and not just the front of snow.

"It will ramp up in February"

They are accessible to minors from ski clubs, to high-level training and more generally to children paying for an instructor.

About 60% of them were able to work at Christmas in Auron and 50% in Isola 2000, while the National Union of French Ski Instructors shows a loss of 95% of its turnover nationally.

“The Christmas holidays were pretty good,” says Pascal Lequenne, director of the Auron Tourist Office, sharing the same observation as his colleague from Isola 2000 Lionel Fernandez.

It will ramp up in February.

The hotel industry is suffering but there is demand for rentals.

The busiest week is February 20-27.
