Abnormally cold weather is expected in the metropolitan area this week.

According to forecasters, the temperature will be 7-12 degrees below normal.

As the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand told RT, the weather situation cannot be called normal.

“The temperature is below normal, starting from Monday by 7-12 degrees.

This is an abnormally low temperature.

The weather will be very cold.

And power engineers and government agencies need to prepare for it, because such a period of abnormally cold weather requires serious preparation for all residential, industrial and social premises to work, ”said the forecaster.

According to him, the last time a similar situation with the weather was observed in 2006.

Vilfand explained that the cold snap since Monday is due to the fact that air masses will move from more northeastern regions, in particular from Yamal, from the Kara Sea, from Novaya Zemlya and from the north of Taimyr.

“Therefore, temperatures will already go down.

On Monday nights down to -23 ° C, and around -15 ° C during the day.

On Tuesday and Wednesday night temperatures are -25… -30 ° C, daytime -14… -19 ° C.

The weather will be very cold until the end of the working days of next week.

There is no sign of any sharp increase in temperature further, ”says Wilfand.

He expressed confidence that the weather will remain abnormally cold next weekend and early next week.

According to the forecaster, there are no signs of a sharp change in the weather.

Tatiana Pozdnyakova, chief specialist of the Moscow Meteorological Bureau, noted that February has traditionally been the coldest month of winter, which is also expected in 2021.

“Almost the entire next week, the weather will be determined first by the cold rear part of the cyclone, and then by the periphery of the Arctic anticyclone.

North wind will prevail and cold air advection will continue.

And the temperature will become lower and lower every day, ”she said in an interview with RT.

According to Pozdnyakova's estimates, at the beginning of next week, the minimum air temperature in Moscow will be about -25 ° C, in the region the temperature may drop to -30 ° C.

The maximum temperature values will be in the range of -15 ... -20 ° С.

The forecaster noted that the average daily temperature starting from Monday will be below the climatic norm by 7-8 degrees, on some days - 10-11 degrees below the norm.

According to her, in February, such an event happens every three to four years.

Pozdnyakova is also of the opinion that warming should not be expected in the near future.

She admitted that in the middle of the week the temperature can rise to -18 ... -20 ° С at night and -12 ... -14 ° С during the day, but we are talking only about one day.

“Then the frosts will get stronger, and the cold weather will continue until the next weekend inclusive.

A significant increase in temperature is still predicted by the models only in the last ten days of February, ”the forecaster concluded.

Against the backdrop of the coming cold weather, the temperature in the Moscow heating system was raised to the maximum value.

As Petr Biryukov, the deputy mayor of the capital in the Moscow government, told reporters, this figure has been raised to 130 degrees.

“Based on the forecast of weather forecasters about the coming severe frosts in the capital region, it was decided to start a gradual increase in the temperature of the coolant in the heating system,” RIA Novosti quotes Biryukov.

Biryukov explained that the regulation of heat release is provided by two main parameters - by lowering or increasing the temperature of the coolant and increasing or decreasing its volume.

He noted that the adjustment is carried out in stages, and not at once.

“You cannot quickly reduce or increase the temperature in the heat supply system, this is a complex step-by-step procedure that is carried out under the control of dispatching services in automatic mode based on the readings of temperature sensors,” the deputy mayor stressed.

Earlier, the Ministry of Emergency Situations warned about the upcoming frosts in the capital region.

The department urged not to use electrical appliances that are not intended for this for heating premises, and when using electric heaters, not to overload the network and not leave them unattended.

In addition, rescuers advised not to leave the children alone in the room with the heaters turned on.
