The number of people who died after a corona infection in Germany has

risen

to a total of

60,597

.

The Robert Koch Institute announced on Friday in Berlin.

Government spokesman Steffen Seibert called the number of deaths "shockingly high".

Several hundred people die every day after a corona infection.

The very elderly bear the greatest risk of death.

"If 80 percent of the people in nursing homes have at least now received a first vaccination, that is a good deal more security," said Seibert.

However, all efforts such as further vaccinations and tests would have to be made in the homes to defuse the situation there.

The German Foundation for Patient Protection called for more attention to be paid to those in need of care.

"The rate of new infections has fallen by two thirds since the turn of the year," said Eugen Brysch, the board member of the German Press Agency in Berlin.

"But the number of people who died nationwide from and with Covid-19 is not falling to the same extent."

The nationwide

seven-day R-value

was

0.89

according to the RKI situation report from Thursday evening

(previous day 0.83).

This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 89 more people.

The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.

Tirschenreuth and Hof with the highest corona incidence

Four federal states exceeded an incidence value of 100 on Friday, i.e. the number of new infections reported per 100,000 inhabitants within one week: Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Saarland.
