On February 2, the Hong Kong Hospital Authority revealed that the Hong Kong Infection Control Center of North Lantau Hospital near the Hong Kong Asia Expo is expected to be opened on the 26th of this month.

The hospital has six ward buildings, each with two-story wards, providing a total of 816 isolation beds. It is expected that 48 beds will be used in the first phase, mainly to accept patients aged 16 to 65 with mild or moderate clinical conditions.

The Hospital Authority stated that the hospital can handle approximately 1,500 new coronavirus tests per day.

The Hong Kong Infection Control Center of North Lantau Hospital was built with the aid of the central government. It was called the Hong Kong version of "Vulcan Mountain Hospital", and it was completed in just over four months.
