Emma Stone will star in Yorgos Lanthimos' next film.
The Greek filmmaker, who had several projects on the go, started production of
Poor Things
, an adaptation of the novel by Alasdair Gray that he co-wrote with screenwriter Tony McNamara, according to Production Weekly.
According to the first echoes, the film should feature a "feminine Frankenstein, an emancipated woman, volatile and eager for sex".
Emma Stone will therefore play Bella Baxter, a woman who decides to drown herself to escape her abusive husband.
To save her, a scientist replaces her brain with that of… her baby.
Filming for the bizarre-looking film is set to begin in Glasgow, Scotland, next September, according to
The Times
.
Fruitful collaboration
This will be the second time that Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos have collaborated.
The star was already on the bill in 2018 of
The Favorite
, alongside Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz, which had earned him an Oscar nomination.
The film itself had been nominated in nine Oscar categories (Olivia Colman winning Best Actress trophy), and walked away from the BAFTAs with seven awards.
In addition to this critical success, Yorgos Lanthimos' film hit the box office with receipts of over $ 53 million for a modest budget of $ 15 million, making the Greek one of the most requested directors in Hollywood.
No release date has yet been announced for
Poor Things
, but according to The Film Stage, it should hit theaters (if they reopen by then) in 2022.
